A bit of history

Maeko Tessuti & Filati Naturali was born from the passion for the hemp fiber of Mauro Vismara who, in 1998, freed his entrepreneurial streak, deciding to eventually abandon the osteopathic activity in order to take his first steps in the world of natural fabrics production. He dedicated himself to a new and exciting activity that combines his strong interest in the use of natural resources with a careful attention to the new needs of the Fashion sector, particularly in the field of Ethics. Determined to offer interesting news to a restless sector, he studied, learned and interpreted natural yarns to create particular and interesting weaves and realize new and precious fabrics. Working in the name of continuous improvement, Mauro pursues the constant goal of enhancing the natural characteristics of the fibers, ennobling them through the use of modern finishing treatments, to give them increasingly soft and seductive hands, without ever distorting their natural vibes.

Maeko, with the collaboration of Colorsystem, develops a special space dedicated to the dyeing phases, also useful for spreading the use of GOTS certified colors. This activity aims to maintain a strict control of the entire production track and to remain in line with the directives dictated by the REACH Regulation (control for the safety of the use of chemical substances). Through this collaboration, a ethical dyeing department was born in the province of Como allowing the supply of various services, useful both to Maeko own productions and to all the companies in the fashion / furniture sectors that require dyeing services. This department aims to focus the attention on the services most requested by the companies, such as the Lab Dips, an indispensable tool, useful to study the colors for the samples, or the dyeing of small productions, starting from a few meters.

Today, through a dynamic and constant growth, Maeko creates high quality natural fabrics and yarns with a controlled supply chain. Maeko is also active in the development of a sustainable economy that is friendly to nature and respects the environment and the individuals. The natural fibers such as hemp, nettle, soy, crabyon, bamboo, linen, organic cotton, yak and certified wool yarns are processed by expert technicians in a historic weaving mill in the province of Turin, before being placed on the international clothing and furnishing market. Each product aims to meet the needs of those companies that choose to combine quality with ethics and respect for natural rules, paying attention in choosing and using excellent products for their creations.

In 2019 the historic combed spinning company Filarte was acquired and became an integral part of Maeko.  Maeko, according to its believes, has decided to incorporate the entire Filarte team into its staff in order to enhance and carry on, from generation to generation, a wealth of knowledge that is part of our country, with all the manufacturing traditions of Italian textiles.
